Best sustainability reports

Companies facing the challenge of preparing their first ESRS-compliant report often ask: what should we use as a model? Where can they find inspiration? It is, of course, worth carefully reviewing the reports of those companies that have already taken up the challenge of reporting in accordance with the new rules for 2023. But there is another excellent source of inspiration: the „Sustainability Reports” competition organized by FOB. Entries for this year's edition are being accepted for a few more days, until August 31, 2024. How can we use the competition, regardless of whether we actively participate in it or simply want to learn from it?

I encourage representatives of companies that report to submit their reports to the competition. All you need to do is fill out a short form available on this page, submit the report file, and answer a few questions (what makes the report stand out, how the company plans to improve its sustainability reporting processes, and what has changed in its approach to reporting since last year). Please note the deadline: Friday, August 31!

The reports will be evaluated by Jury in accordance with the criteria that are published on this page. The competition is supervised by Program Council, of which I am honored to be a member. The winning and distinguished reports will be announced on October 29, 2024, during the conference. Greenpact European ESG Summit.

The competition has been organized by the Responsible Business Forum since 2007. It is undoubtedly the most important platform in Poland for identifying good practices in sustainable development reporting. The FOB conducts report library, that were submitted to the competition. Its content, compared with the results of subsequent editions of the competition, allows you to find reports worth following in one place.

Of course, reports from previous editions of the competition did not comply with ESRS standards. Most of them comply with GRI standards, and some were based on other standards and guidelines. However, reading these reports can be helpful if we draw inspiration for our own report. The descriptions of stakeholder engagement processes, the implementation of specific policies, or sustainable development activities in the best GRI-compliant reports do not differ significantly from what will need to be prepared to meet the disclosure requirements of the ESRS standards.

I expect that reading the best reports in this year's edition of the competition will be even more valuable. A number of companies have already prepared their latest reports in accordance with ESRS standards (at MATERIALITY, we worked on fourteen such reports in the last reporting cycle, several of which were audited by certified auditors). In addition, some companies have decided to prepare their reports for 2023 in accordance with GRI standards, but at least partially adapting them to the new requirements.

However, in order for everyone to benefit from the inspiration provided by the best practices contained in this year's report library, as many great reports as possible should be submitted to it. That is why I am repeating my appeal: submit your reports to the competition (by this Friday)! 😊
