On November 8, the Platform on Sustainable Finance, which advises the European Commission on the development of the Taxonomy, published a new, expanded list of activities for which Technical Screening Criteria have been developed. The list covers those activities that make a significant contribution to the other four environmental objectives. Another 18 activities have been added to the 51 types of activities we have known about since March.

From 2021, the Technical Screening Criteria are issued in the form of Commission delegated acts in relation to the first two environmental objectives: climate change mitigation and climate change adaptation. For the remaining four objectives (protection of water and marine resources, prevention and control of pollution, development of a circular economy, protection and restoration of biodiversity and ecosystems), the Commission has not yet issued delegated acts and we only have draft criteria prepared by the Platform on Sustainable Finance.

Among the new activities for which criteria have been developed are: chemical manufacturing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, plastic packaging production, concrete use in civil engineering, building demolition, hotel-related activities, and a range of transport activities.

The supplementary report by the Platform on Sustainable Finance containing criteria for new types of activities can be found at at the following link.

We are now awaiting the European Commission to issue Technical Qualification Criteria for all four environmental objectives in the form of delegated acts. According to our information, there is a good chance that the delegated acts will be published in December 2022.
