At the beginning of August, I wrote about how I had identified 148 errors in the Polish translation of the ESRS and reported them to the Commission. Over the past few days, I have checked the version of the standards published in the Official Journal:
- 122 errors were corrected exactly as I proposed
- 18 errors were corrected using slightly different wording from what I suggested
- 8 errors were not corrected.
Of the errors I reported, 30 were serious, meaning the Polish wording changed the meaning of the standard so that it required companies to disclose different information than the English original. 29 of them have been corrected. Only one, concerning paragraph 11 of ESRS E1, remained unchanged.
With the first set of ESRS, we had to wait 13 months for a corrigendum that removed some of the errors in the Polish language version. This time we have avoided that, and all of us can apply properly translated standards from day one.
Many thanks to the officials at DG FISMA with whom I was in contact in July for taking the translation problem seriously 😊 And congratulations on their effectiveness: they took up the issue and engaged in an active dialogue with the Commission's translation service during a period that in Brussels is traditionally a time of summer absences.
And while I'm on the subject of thanks, I would also like to thank the more than 80 people who joined our webinar on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, where we talked about why and how the MATERIALITY Sustainability Reportwas created. Your interest motivates us to make the next report even more engaging 😊
P.S. (1) Tomorrow and the day after, 29–30 September 2026, the 5th "Czas na ESG" Conferencetakes place. As I mentioned last week, you will have the chance to see PowerESRS, our software supporting ESG data monitoring and report preparation. Come and visit the MATERIALITY stand!
P.S. (2) And if you'd like to get to know the new, simplified ESRS in 2 hours, join the online training I'm running on 23 October 2026. Details registration on the MATERIALITY ACADEMY website.
